ZINATRA
Eddie Rokx - Gino Rerimassie - Joss Mennen - Robbie Valentine - Ron Lieberton

Discography:

Zinatra [st - 1988]st - 1988

Notes:

- Often credited as the original band of AOR virtuoso Robby Valentine, “Zinatra” could be considered as the archetypal melodic rock/glam metal band of Holland, having debuted in 1988 and enjoyed considerable chart success with such hit singles as “Love or Loneliness”, “Somewhere” and “Looking for Love”.

Zinatra. the brain child of bassist Ronal Lieberton featured recruits from Vandale including guitarists Gino Rerimassie, Sebastian Floris, drummer Ed Rokx and lead singer Joss Mennen. The album in question is a mixture of euro-glam metal reminiscent of the more commercial moments of “Europe” and “Treat” . The Zinatra debut featured remarkable-for the time- instrumental harmonies and melodies courtesy of the guitars and keyboards while lead singer Joss Menner puts admirable effort in his delivery though perhaps his full potential will be uncovered on the following album.

To say that the songwriting on the Zinatra debut is anthemic would be an understatement as each and every song features super-sized choruses and multiple sing-along passages. Other highlights include the unconventional “Name of the Game”, the outsider power-ballad “Hero” marking another hit single for South America plus the happy-upbeat “Heat of the Moment”.

In retrospect the Zinatra debut is far from your average pop-metal or melodic rock release. Some of the performances found on the album are pretty unorthodox and often challenging for the listener a fact that will always be bringing one back to this peculiar album. -
