Notes:
- Former SANTANA and JOURNEY keyboard player. Although Gregg Rolie had contributed lead vocals and keyboards to no less than seven JOURNEY albums he quit the band just prior to the San Francisco based outfit enjoying huge success with 1982's 'Departure' album thanks in part to the recruitment of ex-THE BABYS keyboard player JONATHON CAIN as his replacement. Rolie returned to the fray in 1985 with a Kevin Beamish and Bill Schnee produced album in late 1985.
The self-titled affair found JOURNEY's NEAL SCHON, JEFFERSON STARSHIP's Craig Chaquico, GIANT's Dan Huff and the even Carlos Santana himself supplying guitars. J. GEILS BAND's Peter Wolf and Alan Pasqua provide keyboards. Backing vocals come from STAN BUSH and drums from ex-JETHRO TULL man Mark Craney.
Rolie's second solo album, 'Gringo', appeared in 1987 and once more saw the keyboard player assisted by Schon, Huff and Santana. Guitar would also be contributed by STEF BURNS of PABLO CRUISE and Y&T repute. Rolie was later involved in the post JOURNEY band THE STORM with former band mates bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith. The German AOR label Point Music re-issued the 1987 a full decade later retitled 'Hands Of Time'.
Pop diva SHERYL CROW adds backing vocals to 1997's 'Rough Tracks'. Guitars come from SAHARA SNOW's Tim Pierce and drums from Denny Fongheiser.
The 2000 'Roots' album sees contributions from THE STORM, DAVID LEE ROTH and FOREIGNER drummer Ron Wikso, guitarists Dave Amato of REO SPEEDWAGON and NEAL SCHON with backing vocals from Brett Tuggle.
Rolie assembled a band for American touring during November 2001. Participating would be REO SPEEDWAGON guitarist Dave Amato, SANTANA and WEATHER REPORT bassist Alphonso Johnson, FOREIGNER keyboard player Tom Gimbel and Ron Wikso on drums. Percussion would be supplied by the SANTANA duo of Adrian Areas and Jose Areas. Still working the US clubs in 2004 Rolie was fronting up a seven-piece band that still included Areas along with Alphonso Johnson on bass and percussionist Michael Carabello, both former members of SANTANA. In early 2005 Rolie guested on new recordings for Classic Rockers MONTROSE.
The singer would also find himself in another on screen project, as part of the 2005 'Rock School' documentary chronicling the pioneering work of Paul Green's School Of Rock Music in Philadelphia. Rolie fronted up a version of 'Black Magic Woman' backed by musicians from the school. -
