Notes:

- AOR act centred around much travelled UFO, HAMMER, WHITESNAKE and BABE RUTH guitarist BERNIE MARSDEN. The guitarist's previous attempt at forming a band after his departure from WHITESNAKE in 1982 was titled S.O.S. with a line-up of former PAT TRAVERS and WILD HORSES drummer Clive Edwards, STRAIGHT EIGHT bassist Steve Cherry and ex-TURBO vocalist Tommy Jackson.

S.O.S. toured with SAMSON but problems ensued almost immediately with Jackson being ousted in favour of ex-STRIDER and LAST FLIGHT man Rob Hawthorn. Pre ALASKA Hawthorn also contributed vocals to BOW WOW guitarist Kyoji Yamamato's solo album 'Electric Cinema'. Jackson teamed up with PRAYING MANTIS briefly then German act ZENITH.

ALASKA's 1982 Reading festival appearance both Edwards and Cherry were given their marching orders. ALASKA came about in late 1983 with a line up of ex-VOYAGER and MARILLION drummer John Marter, the original keyboard player for MAGNUM Richard Bailey and vocalist Rob Hawthorn being a tide over from S.O.S. Former WHITESNAKE bassist Neil Murray played on the debut album.

By the time of 'The Pack' album Bailey had left to join WHITESNAKE and had been supplanted by ex-RAINBOW keyboardist DON AIREY. In 1986 Hawthorn was replaced by ex-SWEET SAVAGE and VENTURE vocalist Rob Cass (a.k.a. Robert Casserley) who debuted with the band at an outdoor festival in Poland. Meantime Hawthorn entered into the Butlins seaside circuit becoming a ROD STEWART impersonator!

Marsden put ALASKA on ice to form MGM with ex-WHITESNAKE veterans bassist Neil Murray and guitarist Mel Galley but this project folded in 1988. The 90's found Marsden in union with his former WHITESNAKE guitar sparring partner MICKY MOODY in the MOODY MARSDEN BAND, THE SNAKES and COMPANY OF SNAKES. The Marsden / Moody / Murray trio would still be active in 2003, touring as M3 with another suitable 'M' - ex-BLACK SABBATH vocalist TONY MARTIN. -
