Notes about Sharx:
- Sharx was a prominent AOR (Adult Oriented Rock) and melodic rock band from the island of Bermuda, best known for their 1985 cult classic album, "On The Rock."
The story of the band represents a fascinating evolution of Bermuda's local music scene. Before they embraced the heavy riffs and soaring choruses of 80s arena rock, several members of the band performed together in Fame, a popular 1970s Bermudian disco and soul group. As the new decade arrived, the musicians pivoted toward a harder, more melodic rock sound, transforming themselves into Sharx.
They quickly established themselves as a powerhouse in the island's nightlife circuit. The band became a staple act at legendary local venues, most notably the iconic 40 Thieves Club, where they entertained both locals and tourists. Among the talented lineup was the notable musician Mr. Chamberlain, who would later become a well-known figure in Bermuda's jazz circles.
The Legacy of "On The Rock".
In 1985, the band independently released their defining studio album, "On The Rock." The title itself was a clever double entendre, playing on the energetic genre of music they performed and the affectionate nickname locals use for their home island, "The Rock." -
