Notes:
- RIO dealt in refined hard rock with a distinct AOR edge. Neil (real name Jon Willoughby) is ex BLACK TIGER and VERITY and Rodford ex DUCHESS. Together with Dave Kilminster they formed BOMBAY in the early eighties and adopting the name RIO when it became clear there was already an American act already titled BOMBAY.
Following recording of the debut album Kilminster had left. The group duly ddded guitarist Pat McDonald, keyboard player Ross Griggs and drummer Martin Witik for live dates. Regrettably the sleeve photo for the 'Sex Crimes' album depicting a topless angel ultimately left more of an impression than the band's music. JOHN VERITY is included on backing vocals for the 'Sex Crimes' album.
Neil and Rodford created another AOR act BIG TALK after RIO's demise. This new venture lasted one gig at the Limelight Club in London.
By 1991 the duo had paired up again with the TINA EGAN BAND. Willoughby (now using his real name) and Rodford united again to feature on the 1994 album 'Trip Through Paradise' by THE KICK, the act led by TEN YEARS AFTER bassist Leo Lyons.
Rodford teamed up with his father, ex-DOG SOLDIER guitarist Derek Griffiths and former STRAWBS keyboard player Chris Patten to create WICKED in 1998.
Dave Kilminster later turned up in JOHN WETTON's band, QANGO and ASIA. The guitarist has also cut an album with fellow guitarist MARIO PARGA and by 2004 was working with KEITH EMERSON. -
