Notes about Cindy Cruse:

 Text in English

- Cindy Lerae Cruse was born in Texas on 18 May 1963 and grew up in Tyler, the youngest of the five children of Joe Cruse Jr., a pastor and teacher, and his wife Nancy. Her father founded The Cruse Family, an evangelistic music group formed in Jacksonville, Texas, that released some twenty-five albums, received two Dove Awards and toured widely through the 1970s and early 1980s. Cindy began singing with the family at the age of six, started writing songs at seven, and at nine became the youngest songwriter licensed by ASCAP.

By 1982 the group had shortened its name to Cruse and released an album of that title on Priority Records, produced by John Rosasco with Bob Cotton as engineer and Smitty Price among the keyboard players; Cindy co-wrote several of its songs. In 1984 she began recording as a solo artist with two cassettes, Cruse and Cruse 2, and on 30 November 1985 she married the producer Tim Miner in Tyler.

Her move into melodic rock came in 1989 with The Edge, released by Nissi Records of North Hollywood and distributed by Pan Pacific. The album reunited her with John Rosasco as producer and Bob Cotton as executive producer, the latter also sharing engineering duties with Peter Haden. It was recorded and mixed at Weddington Studio in North Hollywood and mastered by Steve Hall at Future Disc Systems. The band was made up of Michael Landau and Marty Walsh on guitars, Leon Gaer on bass, Cactus Moser on drums and Smitty Price on keyboards, with Rhett Lawrence handling synthesizer programming and Art Wood drum programming. The ten songs open with the title track and close with "Stand Tall". The cover concept was by Judith Cotton, the design by Willardson + Associates and the photography by Phil Fewsmith.

Small Town Girl followed in 1991 on Frontline Music Group. Tim Miner served as executive producer for Artisan Productions, Cindy as co-producer, and every track carries a joint production credit for the two of them, in some cases shared with Mike and Mark Stitts. All the songs were performed and recorded at Knightlight Studios in Dallas and mixed at Eagle Mountain Recording Studio in Newark, Texas, by Win Kutz, Tim Miner, Leland Bennett, Mike Stitts and Mark Cassimatis. Mark Stitts played most of the guitars, Jennifer Batten contributed solos to several tracks, Tommy Sims and Miner shared bass duties, and the drums and programming were divided between Mike Baird, Mike Stitts and Miner. Cindy co-wrote every song and wrote "The Wise" alone, and titles such as "Written in Red" and "Luke 17:2" leave the Christian character of the record in no doubt. The photography was by Constance Ashley, the design by Brian Godawa and the art direction by Ed McTaggart. In the liner notes she thanks her parents, her siblings and her husband, and singles out Batten as a model for female guitarists.

Her marriage to Miner later ended in divorce. Cindy went on to serve as one of three worship leaders at Covenant Church in Carrollton, Texas, where she met Marcus Ratcliff, whom she later married. In January 2000 Joel Osteen, who had just taken over Lakewood Church in Houston, telephoned to offer her the post of worship director; she was his first hire as pastor, and the couple moved to Houston. She led the music on the church's live albums, beginning with Lakewood Live: We Speak to Nations in 2002 and Lakewood Live: Cover the Earth two years later, and on a 2006 Christmas album recorded with the Houston Symphony. She also became a central figure in Osteen's arena tours and in the live recordings drawn from them. In 2008 her title changed to senior worship leader, a role she held for more than fifteen years.

Now known as Cindy Cruse-Ratcliff, she returned to solo recording in May 2010 with Twenty Three, her first studio album in more than a decade. Heaven Raining Down, produced by David Hanley and recorded at Lakewood Church, appeared in 2014 through RPM Music, the label she co-owns with her husband, in association with the Capitol-affiliated Dream Label Group. Its Spanish-language counterpart, Lluvia Celestial, was released in 2015, followed in October of that year by Edge of the Universe, a live album recorded at Lakewood. In December 2018 she issued the Christmas EP Glorious.-
