- Annika Wiklund (stage name Annica and Annica Wiklund, born 1967 in Nyköping, Sweden) is a Swedish-Finnish rock singer. She has recorded a solo album Badly Dreaming in 1988. She has also sung on several Finnish rock and pop albums. Wiklund's voice has been described as a powerful and international heavy rock sound.
Annika Wiklund was born in Sweden to a Finnish mother and a Swedish father. At the turn of the 1980s, Wiklund was one of the vocalists in the protest band Mörbyligan. Wiklund is credited as a singer on the band's 1982 album No 003. However, she has said that the band's strong social orientation was ultimately too much for her. Wiklund has also criticised the fact that, in that era, women's musicality was seen as limited to protest bands.
In the mid-1980s, Wiklund came to visit Jyväskylä, where his grandmother lived. When he arrived in Finland, Wiklund knew only a few words of Finnish. Eventually he settled in Jyväskylä and started playing with local bands. Initially, the gigs were in the style of Rush, a band that played 'spider prog'. The best known of Annika's bands at the time was Lindsay Gate, who played heavy, prog rock.
In 1987, Wiklund's voice was heard on the recording Tuhatsarvisia, a selection of young bands from Jyväskylä, released to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city of Jyväskylä. Wiklund (on the album as Viklund) sings on the album as a soloist with Lindsay Gate on the songs "Everything's Allright" and "Sail Away".
The following year, Annika Wiklund recorded an album under the stage name Annica, Badly Dreaming, an album of 1980s heavy rock that briefly rose to national prominence. Wiklund contributed to the composition and lyrics of all the songs on the album. The album was produced by T. T. Oksala. At the time of the album, Annica's live band included Petteri Hirvanen (guitar), Jukka Kiviniemi (bass), Baba Salama (guitar), Esa Palosaari (drums) and Mikko Rintanen (keyboards).
During the 1990s and 2000s, Wiklund has sung backing vocals for various artists and bands, including The 69 Eyes, Havana Black, Jan Stenfors and Riku Lätti. She has also been the lead singer of Pink Flamingos. -
Great. When you can, hear Greenlight by The Burns Sisters. Another great AOR with female vocalists
